Congratulations! If you are reading this, you most likely are currently pregnant or hoping to become pregnant soon. Welcoming a new baby into the world is a unique experience, and many different decisions come with it. Today we are here to talk about sharing this big news with your loved ones. We hope you enjoy this week’s blog, pregnancy Announcements 101.
When to share the news?
Every family is different, and while many choose to share the news that they are expecting with a few close friends and family members early on in a pregnancy, some decide to wait until they are out of the first trimester to share. This is entirely up to you and your family. Typically families wait to share that they are pregnant on a broader scale until after the first trimester, which is the twelve-week mark of pregnancy. Some also choose to entirely keep the news of a new pregnancy off of social media and keep their news of expecting between close friends and family throughout their pregnancy.
When do you tell your job?
It is entirely up to you when you would like to share that you are pregnant with your work. Many wait until their second trimester or the end of their first trimester. If you work in an environment with unsafe chemicals, extreme morning sickness, or strenuous work activities, you may need to tell your employer sooner.
Pregnancy announcement ideas
There are many different ways to announce that you are pregnant. Some families decide to share the news with everyone they know. Others choose to keep their pregnancy between their family and close friends until their baby has arrived.
Here are some ideas:
- Send out a personalized card to your close family and friends with either a picture of an ultrasound or a handwritten note announcing that your family is expecting.
- Have someone take professional photos for your baby announcement and post them on social media or send cards to your close family and friends.
- Throw a party and announce your pregnancy there.
- A simple Facebook or Instagram post
Remember, this is your experience, and whatever feels the most comfortable to you is what we encourage you to do.
