The Importance of Self-Love as Parents

The importance of self love as parents

February is often a time when love is on the mind. With Valentine’s day just around the corner, we are thinking of the different kinds of love that everyone has in their lives. Today we are here to talk about an essential love often put on the back burner or overlooked. Self-love! We hope you enjoy this week’s blog, the importance of self-love.

It all starts with yourself.

It’s no secret that parenthood significantly shifts your priorities, schedule, and day-to-day life. Becoming a parent expands our hearts, and often we feel more love as parents toward our little ones than we ever thought possible. It’s also true that parenthood is demanding! Self-love can be put on the back burner with children, and today we are here to offer ways to ensure you are still taking the time to love yourself.

You are still a priority

Read that again, and then reread it if you can! Yes, you are now a parent. Yes, you are busy giving your little ones everything they need, BUT you are still a priority! Loving yourself not only makes us better parents but also makes us happier people.

Carve out time to care for you

There are many different ways to practice self-love. The first is how we speak to ourselves. Do we offer ourselves the same love, compassion, and understanding that we may offer our friends, family, and children? Most of us don’t. A great way to start doing this more is to write down ten things you love about yourself daily. It’s great to start the day thinking of ways in which you are amazing! These don’t have to be huge things. It could be as simple as, I love cooking my family breakfast each morning, or I love my smile. Bringing awareness and celebration to the good in us is a great self-love practice.

Asking for support

Another great way to practice self-love is to ask for support. Realizing when we need help and a break is so important. Building your support network can help ensure you have people to turn to when you need some extra TLC.

Self-love is a daily practice.

Self-love doesn’t have to be going out and spending thousands of dollars on new clothes. Real, lasting self-love is a daily practice and process! We hope this blog helps you practice loving one of the most important people you’ll ever know.
