Setting Goals for the New Year

We did it; it’s officially 2023! The beginning of each year often is a time to reflect on the year past and make goals for the year ahead. For our blog this week, we talk about setting goals for the New Year. Enjoy.
Tip #1 Stay realistic
When setting goals, we as humans often shoot for the stars! While it is great to have big goals, it’s important that our goals for the New Year are realistic and obtainable. Say your goal is to run a marathon, but you’ve never run before. Maybe for this year, your goal is a half marathon, intending to run a full marathon the following year. Setting ourselves up for success and accomplishment helps us feel accomplished and boosts confidence when we achieve our goals. Rather than feeling let down by ourselves if we don’t.
Tip #2 Pick one main goal
When thinking about goals, it is easy to get excited and think of many things you want to improve or change. This makes sense; change and growth are exciting! While it’s great to think of the areas or ways in life you’d like to improve, sticking to one main goal is a great way to stay focused. This may be because I’d like to be healthier in the New Year, prioritize my sleep, get outside, etc. Sticking to one main goal can help you stay focused.
Tip #3 Accountability buddy
Having an accountability buddy for the year can be extremely helpful. This could be your partner, friend, or family member. There are different ways to hold each other accountable for your goals. Some choose daily check-ins, others weekly. Whatever works best for you is excellent!
Progress, not profection
As humans, we can be extremely hard on ourselves and are often our own biggest critics. We often strive for perfection, but we are here to encourage you to strive for progress! Change is hard, and deciding to put in the effort to make positive changes in your life is already a huge step. Take each progression as a win, and celebrate yourself!
