Doula Support During Covid-19

The importance of postpartum support

To all who are pregnant or welcoming a baby this year, congratulations! It is a celebratory time in your life. We know that this year may have been unprecedented and when you found out you were pregnant it became a whole new journey. Many were not able to have a baby shower, gender reveals party, blessing way, etc. We hear you when you tell us you are sad that you feel you’ve missed out on these things. We hear you when you tell us you wish your friends could meet your baby.  You are strong and resilient, we see you, and we know this is hard! We believe you when you say you are doing the best that you can, and we encourage you to celebrate the beauty and the good moments!

From our experience, we know support is still a crucial part of the pregnancy or postpartum journey. We know that many people have not been able to get additional outside support during this time. We are still here to help! This week we will be talking about postpartum support during COVID-19.

The importance of Postpartum support

Postpartum support is a crucial part of a new parent’s journey. Its practices vary all around the world. Support postpartum is based around the birthing person being given the space to recover, process, rest, and form a lasting bond with their new baby. This integral support can look very different for each person. There are also many different kinds of support systems a person can choose postpartum. Some may choose to have friends and family, others may choose to hire someone to cook or clean. You may also consider having a nanny to help with your baby or older kids. Choosing a postpartum doula means they are there to help in all aspects and the role that doulas play changes from day to day depending on the needs of both the birthing person, the partner, and the baby. When you invite a Bay City Doula into your home you are inviting a trained and certified expert to walk alongside you during this new journey in life.

Doula Support during COVID-19

Our trusted team at Bay City Doulas is doing everything we can to keep our clients and our doulas healthy while continuing to provide doula support during covid-19. we are still providing Santa Cruz, San Jose, and the broader Bay Area with non-bias, evidence-based care. We see the need for postpartum care, and per the CDCS guidelines and suggestions, our team has created a list of safety measures we each follow while working with our clients.

Before each shift your Doula has:

  • Taken a shower
  • Changed into clean clothes
  • Driven straight to your house without stops
  • Hands are washed upon arrival
  • Mask is put on before entering the house

These are the protocols we have set in place to keep our clients and our team healthy. If you are looking for additional support and have additional requests we are happy to try and accommodate.
